Overview
The Rubicon Centre is seeking a Building Superintendent to oversee daily cleaning and maintenance of its two-story building, ensuring a clean, safe, and professional environment for all staff, clients, and visitors. This position plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the building and contributes to the overall image and functionality of the Rubicon Centre.
The successful candidate will be responsible for routine cleaning duties, light handyman tasks, basic maintenance, and ensuring that building facilities are operating efficiently. This is a hands-on role for someone who is reliable, takes initiative, and wants to contribute to the clients’ overall experience within the Centre.

Launched in 2006 as a campus-based incubator, the Rubicon Centre has grown steadily and continues to support entrepreneurs from all backgrounds as part of the MTU campus. Operating on a not-for-profit basis, it works with knowledge-based companies at all stages of development—from idea to market entry and beyond. In 2024, Rubicon supported over 300 entrepreneurs, with 42 based on-site, and has an alumni network of over 500 clients. The Rubicon’s strategy is to build on its strong foundation and position itself as a world-class incubator, a hub for innovation in the region, and a key enabler of MTU’s Innovation and Enterprise agenda.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* At least two years of work experience in light maintenance including cleaning
* Must be able to move office furniture
* Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of building presentation
* Proactive in identifying and resolving minor maintenance issues
* Friendly and professional when interacting with colleagues, clients, and visitors
Working Conditions
* On-site role only – remote work is not applicable.
* One full-time candidate preferred, or two part-time candidates may be considered.
* Shift-based hours:
* Morning – 7:30am to 11:30am
* Evening – 6:00pm to 9:00pm
* Flexibility may be required to support occasional events or additional maintenance tasks.
Person Requirements
* Maintenance Skills: Minimum of 2 years’ experience with basic maintenance and facility upkeep including cleaning
* Physical Fitness: Some physical strength and stamina required (e.g., lifting, bending)
* Health & Safety: Basic understanding of workplace health and safety procedures
* Team Experience: Comfortable working in a small, collaborative team environment.
* Client-Facing Experience: Ability to interact with people in a courteous and professional manner.
* Easy commute to The Rubicon Centre
* Good spoken English
* Legally entitled to work in Ireland
Desirable Skills
* Experience tracking inventory
* Ability to use basic digital tools (e.g., email, WhatsApp) for team communication.
* Knowledge of security procedures or building access systems (an advantage, not essential).
* Trade certification or qualification in building maintenance (an advantage, not essential).
Key Responsibilities
* Perform daily cleaning of all building areas, including offices, meeting rooms, kitchenettes, bathrooms, stairwells, and communal areas.
* Conduct light maintenance and tasks, including moving office furniture, replacing light bulbs, painting.
* Ensure all cleaning supplies and materials are stocked and maintained. Monitor and report any building issues, damage, or safety hazards to management.
* Assist in setting up rooms or facilities for events, workshops, or meetings.
* Oversee refuse disposal and recycling processes in accordance with building policy.
* Conduct periodic deep cleaning tasks (e.g., windows, floor polishing).
* Follow all relevant health and safety regulations and building compliance requirements.
* Support small facilities-related projects as directed by management.
* Contribute to the Rubicon team meetings, providing input and feedback on activities.
