Job Title: Clinical Specialist Radiographer in MRI Reference No: ****** *****) Department / Directorate: Radiology Department, Radiology Directorate Reports to: Radiography Services Manager providing safety advice on all aspects of MRI safety, including the safe use of equipment, the development of local rules and procedures, and the assessment of risks associated with specific patients and procedures.
Providing training to MRI staff on safety procedures and protocols, ensuring they are aware of the potential hazards and how to mitigate them.
Accessing risks associated with various MRI procedures, including the use of contrast agents, implants, and foreign bodies, and provide guidance on how to minimize those risks.
They develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe work practices in the MRI environment.
Contribute to the development of MRI safety policies and initiatives to improve the quality and safety of the service.
To write protocols and update at regular intervals in conjunction with the Consultant Radiologists to reflect current best practice in MRI.
To observe all hospital and department policies and procedures.
Work effectively as part of a team dedicated to delivering a high quality efficient radiographic service and must demonstrate a professional caring and responsible approach to duties carried out.
To develop patient information leaflets and update at regular intervals To assist in leading the professional organisation and management of the service within the Hospital and have an awareness of the resources available within the Radiology Department Adhere to professional guidelines as determined by the Irish Institute of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists Monitor and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations and standards relevant to the use of ionising radiation Prepare relevant risk assessments and assist in departmental safety statements as required To support the Radiography Services Manager (or deputy in his/her absence) in the recruitment, training, rostering and leadership of a team of skilled staff, creating and promoting healthy working relationships To liaise with the Radiography Services Manager (or deputy in his/her absence) on the rotation of staff to ensure an adequate number of trained staff are available To participate in Radiology duties across TUH campus where appropriate To identify, with support the level of undergraduate and post-graduate training the Hospital should undertake To develop a comprehensive in-house MRI training programme for Radiographers in assigned modality To actively participate in continuing education and research activities consistent with the position To partake in internal audits of the department as required To ensure specific infection control protocols are in place To liaise with the Radiography Services Manager 3 (or deputies in his/her absence) to ensure equipment service contracts are in place, all equipment faults are reported and maintenance and routine servicing of equipment are scheduled as appropriate To participate in equipment procurement projects along with representatives of each of the disciplines involved in service delivery To partake and ensure that a Quality Assurance programme is in place in the department To identify and implement operational processes to the standards of best practice in order to optimise use of resources and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements To demonstrate behaviour consistent with the Values of the Hospital To have a good working relationship with all disciplines involved in service delivery Ensuring that work schedules and work programmes are created to provide for the most effective and efficient deployment of staff and other resources and are changed systematically in the light of changes in the volume and mix of cases being referred to the Modality Assist in leading changes in work practices, procedures, techniques or technologies having regard to developments in Radiology and in accordance with agreed core standards and best practice Introduce and maintain systems for determining the volume and mix of cases that can be accepted from their specialty consistent with core standards including Quality Assurance Programmes in consultation with Consultant Radiologists and referring clinicians Supervise, in co-operation with the Materials Management Department, the custody and stock level of all materials held in the Section and the delegation of these duties to appropriate staff Identify defects in supplies and equipment.
Receive and record details concerning mishaps, and complaints and investigate the circumstances with appropriate staff and report findings as required Ensure, with support from the Director of Organisational and Development and Coordinator of Education and Research and in consultation with the appropriate Colleges, that the relevant undergraduate and post-graduate courses are facilitated and coordinated in accordance with College guidelines Facilitate the arrangements necessary and participate where appropriate, in education and training of other Hospital staff, both at undergraduate and post-graduate level, as the need arises Attend meetings as required relevant to your modality and keep staff briefed on developments Lead, by example, a professional, punctual and dedicated team Create and promote open communications, healthy working relationships, and stimulate initiative among the Radiography team within the Hospital Motivate team members, by agreeing goals and objectives Maintain team work and, only when necessary, take action in accordance with the Hospital's disciplinary policy Participate in mandatory training programmes Any other duties assigned by Radiology Management team Qualifications
