About the Role
My end-user customer has a new career opportunity that sits within their globally distributed Database team. Reporting to the European Database Manager, you will be responsible for architecting, administering, configuring, and monitoring multiple web services and Apache Foundation projects.
As a web SME, take charge of architecting, administering, configuring, and monitoring multiple web services and Apache Foundation projects, including HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka. Ensuring optimal performance, availability, and security of the managed web application infrastructure, implementing industry best practices for web server administration, security hardening, and performance tuning.
How You Will Contribute:
* Work across Web Application Administration/Architecture
* Serve as the SME/Architect for web services, including HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka for project and day-to-day operations
* Managing 'how the web should look' to advise and support teams of DBAs, Linux/Windows Administrators, Networking Engineers, and Developers through deep expertise in areas like Load Balancing, Security Firewalls, DNS, SSL/TLS certs, and Database accessibility
* Ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of web application infrastructure
* Proactively monitor web server performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks
* Implement and maintain effective SSL/TLS certificate management strategies
* Plan and execute upgrades, patches, and security updates for Apache, Tomcat, and related web services
* Develop and maintain a working knowledge of web proxies and their interaction with web applications
* Collaborate with the DBA team, application developers, and IT stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve complex web service-related issues
Essential Experience Required:
* More than five years' related experience in web infrastructure management
* Strong experience managing Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat in Linux environments
* Experience with SSL/TLS certificate architecture, management and automation
* Experience with Load Balancers, DNS and Reverse Proxies
* Strong knowledge of web proxies and their interaction with web applications
* Strong documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret market data and drive strategic decisions.
* Proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to adapt to dynamic market conditions.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Desirable Experience:
* Experience with monitoring and reporting tools such as Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus
* Hands-on experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python).
* Familiarity with database technologies and a willingness to learn Progress OpenEdge, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
Additionally:
Monitoring and Reporting
* Work with database technologies to create and manage metrics, logs, and reports using tools such as Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus.
* Design and implement monitoring solutions to provide visibility into system health, performance, and security across web applications and databases.
Automation and Security
* Use Kafka as an event streaming and data integration platform.
* Work with Ansible and YAML for automation, configuration management, and deployment scripting.
* Actively contribute to security compliance efforts by addressing vulnerabilities and optimizing system configurations.
Collaboration and Support
* Work closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Development teams to align web application services with business needs.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation of web service configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
* Provide exceptional customer service and support to internal stakeholders.
This role is based in Ireland, and you must be eligible to live and work in Ireland.
This can be a remote position, but you must be available to attend their offices in Dublin from time to time.
