Overview

JJ Rhatigan Company is one of Ireland’s leading Building Contractors, with operations throughout Ireland and the UK. We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join our award-winning team in Galway.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a prestigious main contractor and work with like-minded people on exciting multi-million-euro projects.


Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver the overall project from pre-start to handover, and be responsible for the management of the project.
* Planning programming, health and safety, BC(A)R, design management, technical submittals approvals/RDDs, construction operations and site logistics, and logistic planning.
* Procurement (sub-contractors and materials), quality and environmental, BIM, mechanical and electrical, and scheduling the project using appropriate planning software.
* Ensure adequate resources are available on site from JJR and sub-contractors to meet delivery; monitor and update the program weekly; identify risks early and apply mitigation measures; inform senior management of delays.
* Prepare monthly reports on program, quality, health safety, progress and finance (in conjunction with the QS) and present to project stakeholders as required under contracts.
* Assist and manage the Design Manager to close out design issues in line with the program; ensure design team appointments and payment schedules align with deliverables.
* Produce a procurement schedule in line with the target program for the QS to procure; assist the QS and Contracts Manager in producing a full scope of works for trade packages.
* Overall responsibility for quality and design on site in addition to team members’ use of JJR’s quality implementation strategy through BIM.
* Act as the primary contact for stakeholders internally and externally, including statutory bodies; assess and manage third-party licenses required (hoarding, scaffolding, etc.).
* Occasionally assist in preparing and submitting tenders and supporting the estimating/Pre-Construction team with programs and construction methodologies.
* Lead and mentor the project team to achieve project goals through clear communication, leadership, training and soft skills development.
* Maintain detailed site records and photographs; ensure adherence to quality systems.
* Chair weekly site meetings and QA meetings; ensure accurate minutes and actions; build relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
* Ensure development and implementation of project plans, including method statements, risk assessments, ITPs, BIM management and BIM field applications.
* Manage technical submissions with the relevant team members and ensure design management aligns with site constraints and the target program.
* Review site operations and logistics; manage BC(A)R from start to handover; delegate responsibilities and manage throughout; monitor the target program and provide mitigations for slippage.
* Ensure temporary works on site are managed in line with BS5975 and JJR protocols.


Health & Safety

* Ensure site compliance with health and safety legislation and the company HS policies; manage inductions, toolbox talks, risk assessments, safety statements, statutory forms, permits, method statements, etc.
* Maintain up-to-date filing for the company HS management system; promote a positive health, safety and environmental culture.
* Plan and coordinate all work activities; communicate foreseeable risks and hazardous interfaces to ensure a safe place of work.
* Assist in the HS plan preparation and periodic review with the HS Advisor; investigate accidents and incidents and implement corrective actions.
* Ensure contractors meet HS requirements and continuously review site resources to comply with statutory duties and procedures.
* Report health, safety or environmental issues to the Contracts Manager; arrange regular subcontractor HS supervisor meetings; take disciplinary action as required with CM advice.
* Ensure actions from inspections and audits are completed and that fire, emergency and traffic management plans are prepared and reviewed regularly.
* Coordinate information for the Safety File.


Quality

* Develop and implement JJR full QA system for site activities; delegate QA responsibilities to the team; hold weekly QA meetings and document minutes.
* Produce inspections and test plans; conduct ongoing inspections to maintain high quality; address subcontractor QA issues promptly; ensure QA is reflected in payment schedules.
* Review subcontractors/suppliers products and facilities; present the site to maintain a high QA standard; ensure early availability of samples and room environments to support quality.
* Aim for monthly QA audit scores consistently above 95%.


Department / Supervisory Responsibilities

* Conduct one-on-one review meetings with team members every 6 months; bi-annual competency matrix reviews and HR training requests.
* Verify weekly time/attendance and submit to HR; conduct annual performance development assessments with team members; manage performance with HR support; handle disciplinary and grievances with HR coordination.
* Monitor and report on departmental objectives and targets in line with organisational strategy.


Abilities & Skills

* Proficient in Microsoft Office and planning software (e.g., MS Project).
* Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
* Highly organized and methodical; excellent project management skills; able to drive multiple work streams; able to supervise and manage staff; capable of delegating to qualified team members.
