We are currently recruiting an experienced Senior Engineer to join a project team based in Tralee, Co. Kerry. This role offers the opportunity to provide senior engineering leadership on site, managing engineering teams, coordinating with design and construction stakeholders, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and technical compliance.
Role Overview
The Senior Engineer is the senior engineering representative on site, responsible for leading the engineering function across assigned projects or work packages. Reporting to the line manager, the role provides technical leadership, sets engineering strategy for setting out and site control, and ensures compliance with quality procedures and project specifications.
The role also carries responsibility for Temporary Works coordination and, where required, oversight of lifting operations, ensuring all activities are planned, controlled, and executed in line with statutory and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the site-based engineering team, including Engineers and Assistant Engineers
- Set the engineering strategy for setting out, onsite control, and technical delivery
- Review and analyse technical details across multiple interfaces, identifying tolerances, clashes, and potential construction issues
- Provide advanced technical input across key work packages including concrete, drainage, external works, steelwork, flooring, façades, and cleanroom environments
- Develop, review, and manage Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and quality documentation
- Act as the primary point of reference for Quality Assurance, record keeping, and production control
- Manage the Non‑Conformance (NCR) process, including creation, investigation, and close‑out, with a strong focus on defect prevention and cost control
- Review and prepare method statements and risk assessments
- Manage and coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical submittals, identifying missing or unclear information
- Provide oversight of permit systems, lifting operations, and temporary works activities
- Chair and lead site and technical coordination meetings
- Interface directly with clients and coordinate with design teams and consultants
Candidate Requirements
- Degree‑qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience in a Senior Engineer role within a Tier 1 construction or engineering environment
- Strong technical knowledge of construction tolerances, structural elements, and complex work packages
- Demonstrated experience managing quality systems, NCR processes, and engineering documentation
- Experience coordinating design teams and interfacing with clients on technical matters
- Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Essential Certifications & Training
- Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) training
- Lifting Operations awareness / Appointed Person (A61 CPCS or equivalent)
- Scaffold awareness and inspection training
- SMSTS or SSSTS (UK) and/or MSIC (Ireland)
- Experience using planning and programming software
Desirable
- Experience on technically complex or regulated projects
- Additional temporary works or lifting operations qualifications
- Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers
