* We are seeking a skilled and experienced Pipeline Protection Specialist to join our team. This exciting opportunity will involve working with key stakeholders, including Local Authorities, National Roads Authority, Railway Procurement Agency, Fire Services, and Electrical Infrastructure operators.
* The successful candidate will be responsible for liaising with third parties regarding development near Transmission Pipelines or Distribution Strategic Mains. This includes interacting with Local Authorities, Architects, Engineers, Planning Consultants, Property Developers, Electrical Infrastructure developers and operators, Landowners and Farmers, Contractors and Utilities.
* As a Pipeline Protection Specialist, you will use your technical skills to approve and issue maps, drawings, and relevant codes of practice using technologies such as GIS and DBYD online.
* Maintaining accurate records is crucial in this role. You will be responsible for documenting all third-party activity near pipelines in a dedicated database.
* A significant aspect of the job involves preparing and issuing regular reports for internal use and regulatory purposes. These reports will provide valuable insights into pipeline safety and operations.
* In addition to report preparation, you will assess development proposals and participate in forums to evaluate their impact on pipeline safety.
* Initiating effective pipe protection measures and supervising construction where necessary are key responsibilities of this role.
* Effective communication is essential in this position. You will advise third parties on appropriate procedures during development.
* You will also participate in safety campaigns and stakeholder information sessions to promote awareness and understanding of pipeline safety.
* This role requires the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for third-party liaison and development near pipelines.
* Collaboration with Agricultural Liaison Officers and the Distribution DBYD team is critical to ensure consistency and efficient operations.
* You will work closely with inspectors and operations teams to track and resolve queries related to pipeline safety and operations.
* Providing updates and escalating risks or issues to the Senior Pipeline Safety Engineer is an essential part of this role.
* Finally, you will lead improvement initiatives for tracking and managing third-party development enquiries.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
* A minimum of 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably with knowledge of Transmission and/or Distribution natural gas processes and construction techniques.
* Understanding of safety management and risk assessment principles.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and gain commitment from stakeholders.
* Excellent communication skills across all mediums.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective information-gathering procedures.
* Proactive approach to learning and applying new knowledge.
* High personal performance standards and results-driven mindset.
* Good understanding of business operations and the commercial impact of technical decisions.
* Proven ability to manage complex issues and communicate them effectively.
