As a Product Designer in the Commerce R&D org, you will be at the forefront of shaping new AI-powered experiences that drive transformative outcomes for restaurant owners and staff.
Your mission is to harness artificial intelligence to solve some of the most complex operational challenges in hospitality.
Responsibilities
Own and drive the end-to-end design process for AI-powered product experiences across Point of Sale and other restaurant management applications, moving from early discovery and concept development through high-fidelity execution with strong autonomy.
Translate complex operational problems into intuitive product experiences by using customer research, workflow analysis, usage data, and business context to shape clear, impactful design decisions.
Design for the realities of restaurant operations, creating workflows that are fast, reliable, and easy to trust in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
Partner closely with Product, Engineering and Research to define how Vision AI capabilities come to life in the product, balancing technical feasibility, model behavior and user needs.
Create polished, high-fidelity artifacts that account for ambiguity, edge cases and evolving AI system behavior, while leveraging and contributing to the Toast design system to ensure quality and scalability.
Make work visible early and often, using prototypes, storytelling and systems thinking to build alignment, clarify tradeoffs and influence product direction across cross-functional partners.
Champion a human-centered approach to AI by designing experiences that build customer confidence, communicate system status clearly, and make complex automation feel transparent, helpful and actionable.
Help raise the collective bar through design critiques, collaboration and mentorship, while also integrating emerging AI-first tools and methods into your practice to accelerate learning, exploration and execution.
