Role Overview:
The Controls Engineer will support and enhance the day-to-day capacity of the Controls Engineering team, focusing on the design, review, and optimization of Building Management Systems for hyperscale data centers.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in technical development of control systems (airside and waterside) for large-scale data centers, including campus planning, layout arrangements, climate data evaluations, control sequences, and compliance analysis with IEC/EN directives and standards (e.g., Low Voltage Switchgear, Machinery).
* Collaborate with A/E design consultants, providing guidance aligned with established engineering standards.
* Perform peer reviews of design deliverables such as drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, calculations, models, panel schematics, and equipment selections; provide feedback and resolutions per engineering standards.
* Identify and recommend value engineering opportunities.
* Analyze redundancies, failure modes, and Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) in coordination with Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) modeling teams.
* Develop conceptual sketches for visualization and spatial validation to streamline communication internally.
* Generate solutions, upgrades, and improvement options to enhance reliability and availability of critical infrastructure.
* Work with partners and controls integrators during construction, design, and change management to address engineering issues and improve standard designs/products.
* Support continuous improvement processes between products, design, construction, and operations.
* Conduct site visits to construction or operational facilities as needed.
* Document and track engineering issues using internal bug-tracking platforms.
* Prepare presentations to communicate findings, evaluations, and options to stakeholders.
* Utilize spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel) for engineering calculations and tabular evaluations.
* Maintain proficiency in relevant BMS standards, including Low Voltage Switchgear Directive, Machinery Directive, and Lightning Protection.
Qualifications:
* Strong knowledge of Building Management Systems and associated standards.
* Proficiency in engineering analysis tools and spreadsheet applications.
* Ability to interpret and review technical drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional engagement.
