About the Role:
The Credit Control Officer is responsible for managing and reducing the company's aged debt by maintaining proactive communication with debtors, resolving account queries, issuing accurate and timely statements, and ensuring payments are collected within agreed terms.
This is a key role in maintaining healthy cash flow and strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively chase outstanding invoices by phone and email to ensure timely payment.
Monitor aged debt reports and follow up consistently on overdue accounts.
Issue regular customer statements and reminders in accordance with company procedures.
Investigate and resolve customer account queries promptly and professionally.
Maintain accurate records of communication and payment commitments.
Work closely with internal departments (e.g., Sales, Customer Service) to resolve disputes affecting payments.
Escalate problematic accounts in a timely manner to management, recommending further action when necessary.
Prepare debtor status reports and support month-end reporting.
Maintain strong relationships with customers to encourage timely payments and repeat business.
Ensure compliance with company credit control policies and procedures at all times.
Support of wider AR team
Skills and Experience Required:
Proven experience in a credit control, accounts receivable, or similar finance role.
Strong understanding of credit control processes and aged debt management.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
High attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to remain calm and assertive under pressure.
Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Xero etc ) and Microsoft Excel.
Professional, trustworthy, and capable of dealing with sensitive financial information.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, office-based role with potential for development within the finance team.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, persistent, and confident in communicating with clients at all levels.
A background in B2B credit control is preferred, but not essential if strong transferable skills are demonstrated.
