Duties for this role include (but not limited to):
* Selecting and completing a full range of appropriate routine diagnostic assessments in children and adults such as otoscopy, standard pure tone audiometry, visual reinforcement testing, performance audiometry, otoacoustic emissions TEOAE and DPOAE, tympanometry, including multiple frequency tympanometry, speech audiometry and speech & noise testing.
* Selecting age-appropriate conditioning paradigms and age-appropriate reinforcement techniques.
* Interpreting client test results, explaining hearing loss to client & parent, deciding individual management plans in conjunction with the client and discussing realistic expectations.
* To undertake the provision of prescription fitting, ear mould selection including type, tubing and venting requirements and management of hearing aids in adults.
* Advising and completing reviews on the hearing aid adaptation process and communication tactics.
* To counsel patients and or parents, and carers on matters relating to hearing aid and tinnitus management.
* To organise onward referral, if necessary and to work as appropriate with other professionals including ENT Consultants, Visiting teachers of the deaf, Paediatricians, Psychologists and Speech and Language Therapists.
* Ensure that all procedures used in the service are adequately documented and that this documentation is kept up to date.
* Actively participate and contribute to departmental audit and research projects.
* Ensure that equipment and facilities used for clinical testing are in good working order and calibrated at appropriate Intervals.
* Completing industrial hearing tests as per HSA guidelines and completing a full report for same.
* Completing micro-suction; using a video otoscope to inspect ears and completing wax removal using the most appropriate method (further training will be provided, if necessary)
