WP Engine is building its AI capability to accelerate innovation and productivity across its organization. As part of this effort, an AI Council has been established to guide responsible AI adoption and governance using best-in-class technologies.
As Principal AI Architect, you will serve as the primary technical visionary and lead technical liaison to the AI Council responsible for establishing a scalable, enterprise‑wide AI architecture. Working in close partnership with the Principal AI Product Manager, you will define the technical strategy and engineering practices that turn AI concepts into high‑impact operational realities.
A central focus of your role will be the creation and oversight of our Enterprise Agent Fabric—a shared internal platform designed to enable the seamless deployment of AI agents across all functional areas.
Day‑to‑Day
Enterprise AI Architecture & Agent Fabric
Design and establish the internal AI development platform, including shared infrastructure, model access, and APIs.
Define a scalable architecture for AI systems and services that ensures scalability and integration across internal workflows.
Lead the design and implementation of AI‑powered tools and agents based on prioritized organizational use cases.
Guide high‑level "build vs. buy" decisions for AI platforms and tools to optimise the technical stack.
Technical Standards & Governance
Establish rigorous engineering best practices and standards for AI development, implementation, and deployment.
Define technical guidelines for model evaluation, monitoring, and documentation while ensuring systems comply with security, privacy, and compliance requirements.
Evaluate and select AI models, frameworks, and tooling, managing their integration and lifecycle within the enterprise.
Enablement & Componentisation
Develop reusable frameworks, components, and APIs to enable engineering teams to build AI‑enabled features more efficiently.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers working on AI initiatives across the organization.
Enable functional teams (Engineering, Support, Sales) by providing the tooling and architecture reviews necessary to integrate AI into their specific workflows.
Operational Deliveries
Design and deploy AI agents that integrate directly into departmental platforms (e.g., CRM or Support tools) to automate specialized tasks.
Build scalable models that monitor operational data to provide proactive alerts, such as identifying customer churn risks or sales pipeline slippage.
Provide shared APIs, reusable components, and technical mentorship necessary for departmental teams to build and maintain their own AI‑enabled features.
Establish and enforce rigorous technical benchmarks for security, performance monitoring, and responsible AI usage across all decentralised implementations.
