Who are you:


The Family Shelter Program Staff is part of the shelter program team, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our family shelter programs, which currently serve 50 families across congregate, scattered site, and motel/hotel units. Our programs are primarily funded by the Executive Offices of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) and the Department of Public Health (DPH), Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS).


What will you be doing:


1. Use a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach with participants.
2. Treat all participants, guests, staff, vendors, contractors, and volunteers with respect and dignity.
3. Maintain boundaries, confidentiality, ethical behavior, and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
4. Utilize translation services as needed to ensure clear communication.
5. Document and communicate effectively with the team to ensure continuity of care.
6. Meet participants' emergency and basic needs throughout their stay.
7. Participate in meetings and stay informed about resources, best practices, and training.
8. Prepare and submit incident reports as required.
9. Apply crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques, and contact emergency services when necessary.
10. Build positive relationships with families while enforcing guidelines and behavioral expectations.
11. Handle maintenance requests and supplies for participants.
12. Support participants in housing searches and applications.
13. Attend shifts punctually, stay for the full shift, and check emails from previous shifts.
14. Ensure participant safety through hourly rounds and supervision.
15. Document significant events and interactions thoroughly.
16. Orient and train temporary staff on policies and procedures.
17. Clean and sanitize units and common areas as assigned.
18. Stock supplies and dispose of trash regularly.
19. Monitor medication administration and ensure safety and compliance.
20. Assist families with medication storage and safety.
21. Oversee community meals, children’s activities, and participant interactions.
22. Provide supplies for families to maintain their rooms.
23. Collaborate with maintenance for routine inspections and serve as backup if needed.
24. Work with case management to support rehousing and conduct intake assessments.
25. Assist with daily shelter tasks, report progress, and support supportive services tracking.
26. Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
27. Shifts may include weekends and holidays.


Our ideal candidate has:


* High school diploma/GED required; a BS in a related field is preferred.
* Experience with homelessness, trauma, or substance use is preferred.
* Familiarity with government agencies like DPH and DTA is a plus.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, positive attitude, empathy, and organizational abilities.
* At least two years of experience in substance use services.
* Reliable attendance and punctuality.
* Training in crisis prevention/intervention (e.g., CPI) is desirable.
* Valid driver’s license preferred; bilingual/multicultural candidates encouraged; lived experience valued.
* CPR/First Aid certification required or to be obtained shortly after hire.
* Background check (CORI) required.


Physical Demands:


Must occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds, sit for extended periods, work on a computer, and climb stairs. Reasonable accommodations can be provided.
