Overview
We are currently seeking a Construction Material Technician to join our team at Bennettsbridge (Kilkenny) Asphalt Plant.
As a construction material technician, you will be responsible for efficiently and effectively assisting in the quality assurance of quarrying and surfacing products. You will conduct onsite and off‑site materials testing and update electronic records.
What you will do
Test and sample aggregate, bituminous, unbound and earthworks materials including grading analysis, binder content and physical, chemical and mechanical testing in a safe and efficient manner, both in the laboratory and on contracting sites/plant.
Conduct daily organoleptic checks for lab, production facilities and all stockpiles.
Maintain a safe and tidy workspace and ensure the efficient running of the laboratory.
Maintain quality standards by following company and accrediting bodies quality procedures and protocol.
Record sample details on test record sheets and laboratory software.
Calibrate all testing equipment.
Prepare for inspections from independent accrediting bodies.
Undertake daily laboratory equipment checks.
Investigate all material‑related complaints and provide suitable and sufficient feedback and evidence to support.
Provide technical cover for other contracts within UK & Ireland.
Essential Criteria
Educated to leaving certificate (or equivalent).
Experience of working in a team environment, providing information and support to colleagues.
Ability to be flexible in working hours, working night shifts or weekends if required.
Driving licence to enable the post holder to fulfil the duties of the role.
Desirable Criteria
Experience, knowledge and understanding of on‑site testing of quarry & bituminous products would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided for the roll.
Previous experience in sampling and testing of construction materials or transferable skills from other employment types (full training provided).
Awareness to work safely on a construction site or production depot.
Willingness to be flexible in your working pattern.
Physical ability to carry out sampling and handling of bulky materials.
Hold a full drivers licence and are capable to operate a small sized commercial van.
Enjoy interactions with internal customers, external contributors, and auditors.
Tolerance for and ability to handle the details and paperwork associated with the role.
Focus on planning, organising and problem solving.
Ability to work on your initiative.
