Role introduction
Based in the Galway region, this Resident Engineer – Wastewater role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced civil/site engineer to support major wastewater network upgrades. You will join the delivery team of a leading global engineering consultancy, working in the wastewater/civil engineering sector on essential public infrastructure works. The position involves close collaboration with Uisce Éireann (UE), local authorities, and regional contractors to help deliver safe, compliant, and efficient improvements across the region.
Role overview
As Resident Engineer – Wastewater, you will oversee a programme of wastewater network construction, upgrade, and rehabilitation works across the Galway region. Working closely with Uisce Éireann (UE), local authorities, and regional contractors, you will provide on-site leadership to ensure delivery is safe, efficient, and fully compliant with contract requirements and regulatory standards. This is a hands-on site supervision role with responsibility for coordinating daily activities, maintaining accurate project records and trackers, reviewing technical submissions and as-laid drawings, and supporting smooth stakeholder communication through to snagging, reporting, and final sign-off.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and manage wastewater upgrade and rehabilitation projects across the Galway region
* Work closely with regional contractors to ensure delivery in line with contract requirements and legislative compliance
* Liaise with Local Authorities and Uisce Éireann (UE) design teams to maintain project clarity, coordination, and progress
* Conduct HSQE audits, monitor site safety, and address HSQE issues promptly
* Process work orders and manage service request approvals
* Maintain and update project trackers, records, and supporting documentation
* Review and approve as-built drawings, technical submissions, and related deliverables
* Complete pre-construction site visits to identify risks and provide practical feedback to design teams
* Plan, attend, and contribute to project meetings with contractors and key stakeholders
* Produce accurate reports, maintain project records, and generate snag lists through to sign-off
* Manage customer and stakeholder queries or complaints in a professional and timely manner
* Provide regular progress updates and technical feedback to regional leads and UE teams
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineer or a related discipline
* Minimum 5 years' post-graduate experience in site supervision or civil engineering works, ideally within wastewater/water infrastructure
* Strong technical understanding of wastewater networks, including sewer upgrades, rehabilitation techniques and repairs
* Proven ability to produce clear, concise reports and maintain accurate project records and documentation
* In-depth knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and site procedures, with experience monitoring and resolving HSQE issues
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple work orders, trackers and approvals
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience liaising with contractors, Local Authorities and design/project stakeholders
* Flexibility to travel across the Galway region as required - vehicle and fuel card can be provided
