Title: Cyber Fraud Post Doctoral Researcher 1 Department: Cyber Explore Contract Type: 18 Month Fixed Term Whole Time Contract Location: Bishopstown Campus, Cork Reporting to: Dr Hazel Murray Overview of Cyber Explore The Cyber Explore Research Group is dedicated to improving cybersecurity for communities and industry in the south-west region, nationally and internationally. The research group works with vulnerable populations, small businesses and multi-nationals to ensure accessible and equitable security for all. The groups hosts the Cyber Innovate initiative for cyber entrepreneurs, the QCloud initiative leading quantum computing research and Cutting edge cyber range infrastructure for cyber attack and defense. The Cyber Skills project addresses the critical skill shortages in the cyber security sector. Currently, there is a global shortage of cybersecurity professionals and Cyber Skills has been designed to enhance Irelands competitiveness in this context. The Cyber Explore group also hosts Cyber Futures which runs an annual Cyber Academy for Transition year students teaching introductory skills for cyber careers. Overview of the Project: Fortifying Trust in Digital Networks: Advanced fraud defence for older adults The aim of this research is to enhance digital trust by developing financial fraud defence techniques for older adults. This research will have a direct impact on society by improving trust in digital networks and improving quality of life for older adults seeking sound investment opportunities. The research will engage with older adults to understand their exposure to tailored fraud and scam techniques. The project will improve national awareness around emerging trends in tailored fraud creating a more secure and resilient society. This position is funded by the CONNECT Research Centre Tranche 4 funding from Science Foundation Ireland co-funded from the European Regional Development Fund under Grant 13/RC/2077_P2. Location of Role: Cyber Explore Research Group@Nimbus Research Centre, Munster Technological University. Duties of the Post: Main duties will include but not limited to: ? To investigate, identify, and quantify types of financial frauds specific to older adults. ? To quantify what techniques, tools, and technologies are used for financial fraud specific to older adults. ? To provide solutions to reduce the number of financial fraud specific to older adults. ? To develop advanced AI techniques to protect older adults from financial fraud. The researcher should be able to manage their own research, set goals and meet deadlines. They should be able to communicate effectively with the project leads and supervise other team members. The individual should be willing to engage with key stakeholders including older adults, older adult advocacy groups, An Garda Siochana (Irish National Police) and the National Cyber Security Centre. During the timespan of the project, the individual will be tasked with writing further funding proposals on this topic. Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role: Essential: Ph D in a computing, science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent discipline. Lead author publication track record in high quality venues. Strong data analysis skills. Communication and team working skills. Proven ability to manage research agendas and goals. Desirable: Experience working on a Research Project Team. Cybersecurity or financial fraud expertise. Experience working with older adults. Motivation and career goal alignment to the project.
