Job Title: Facilities Maintenance OperativeReporting to: Deputy Facilities Manager and Maintenance SupervisorLocation: Griffith College & Griffith Halls of Residence, Dublin 8Job Type: Full-Time / PermanentJob Summary:Griffith College and Griffith Halls of Residence (GHR) operate a historic seven-acre campus located on South Circular Road, Dublin 8, supporting a vibrant community of students, residents, staff, and visitors. Facilities and GHR operations work together to deliver a safe, well-maintained, welcoming, and hospitality-focused environment throughout the academic year and during peak summer accommodation turnover.The Facilities Department oversees the maintenance, presentation, safety, and operational readiness of more than 20 buildings, including academic and residential spaces. This includes planned and reactive maintenance, health & safety compliance, contractor coordination, utilities support, and the upkeep of shared areas. Our teams collaborate closely - including Maintenance, Housekeeping, Security, and administrative support — to ensure smooth campus operations and a high-quality user experience.The successful candidate will adopt a hands-on approach in supporting the daily maintenance operations across Griffith College and Griffith Halls of Residence, ensuring the campus remains safe, well-presented, and fully operational always.Job Responsibilities:Perform planned and reactive maintenance tasks across College buildings and student residences.• Carry out painting, decorating, minor plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical tasks as required.• Investigate and resolve issues with equipment and building systems, escalating where needed.• Assist qualified tradespersons (e.g., electricians, plumbers) with technical tasks.• Ensure that maintenance work meets professional, quality, and safety standards at all times.• Support campus cleanliness and waste removal activities.• Use College vehicles where necessary to transport stock, equipment, and materials.• Participate in inspections, servicing plans and general upkeep of building systems.• Operate within Health & Safety procedures and report hazards or incidents immediately.• Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Housekeeping and Security teams to support daily operations.• Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Maintenance SupervisorPerson SpecificationPrevious facilities, hotel or education-sector maintenance experience is desirable.• Knowledge of maintenance trades is required (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, decorating).• Fire safety awareness or experience is an advantage.• Team-oriented with strong work ethic and initiative.• Good standard of spoken and written English.• Full clean driving licence preferred.Contract type: Full-timeHours of work: 37.5 hours per weekWorking pattern:Standard pattern during non-summer periods (e.g. primarily Monday–Friday, subject to operational needs5-out-of-7-day roster during the GHR summer period, which may include some weekend work, scheduled in advance.About Griffith CollegeGriffith College is Ireland's largest independent third level institution with locations in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.
