The post holder reports directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) and is accountable to the Director of Nursing (DON).
Details of Service:
Blarney Rehabilitation Unit is a newly developed purpose-built post hospital rehabilitation unit. It is made up of 50 beds located off site from the MUH. It remains under the governance of the MUH. The Rehabilitation Services program delivers specialist post-acute care, focusing on patient-centered reablement to help patients achieve optimal functionality and independence following illness or injury. This service emphasizes seamless transitions of care between hospital and home, integrating multidisciplinary expertise to support patient recovery.
Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for;
* Provide operational leadership and supervision to the Rehabilitation nursing staff, fostering an environment of professional excellence and teamwork.
* Allocate, monitor, and review staff rosters, ensuring safe nursepatient ratios and skill mix in line with service demands.
* Facilitate regular team meetings, clinical supervision, and reflective practice sessions to promote continuous learning and cohesion.
* Oversee implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and evidencebased guidelines to maintain high standards of care.
* Contribute to service planning, resource allocation, and development of business cases for new initiatives or equipment.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, medical teams) to expand and refine rehabilitation pathways.
* Support staff in achieving postgraduate qualifications or specialist competencies in rehabilitation nursing.
* Promote the involvement of patients and families in care planning, ensuring clear communication and compassionate support throughout the rehabilitation journey.
* Address patient or family concerns promptly, escalating complex issues to senior management as required
* Supervise the coordination of discharge processes, working closely with community nursing and primary care to secure seamless transitions and continuity of care
Eligibility Criteria:
* Be registered in the General Division of the Live Register of Nurses by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
* Have a proven track record in General nurse management
* Have at least 5 years post registration recent experience, with 2 years' experience in the relevant area.
* Have computer and analytical skills
* Management course desirable
* Post registration qualification in Nursing and or Management desirable.
* Demonstrated knowledge of clinical governance frameworks, service planning, and quality improvement methodologies.
* Postregistration qualification in Nursing Management, Rehabilitation Nursing, or a related specialty is highly desirable.
* Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidencebased practice.
* This post includes Night Duty
