Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Older Person/ Rehabilitation Based at Blarney Rehabilitation Unit and any buildings within the Mercy University complex. Permanent Contract, Full Time Hours. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the delivery of Occupational Therapy services to a complex caseload commensurate with an advanced specialist in the field of Older Person Rehabilitation Services. Provide leadership, direction and support and to ensure the continuing development of the Occupational Therapy staff and students in the Older Person Rehabilitation Service. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice and research, identifying and contributing to research, clinical evaluation and audit opportunities. Possess skills and expertise greater than those expected of a Senior Grade Therapist. These would include research and development skills. Responsible for the development and maintenance of standards of Occupational Therapy practice of self and staff appointed to Older Person Rehabilitation Services. Responsible for managing their own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards. Participate in the integrated discharge planning process in line with the HSE Code of Practice. Responsible for the day-to-day running of Occupational Therapy Older Person Rehabilitation Services by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale and team working in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager. In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager, lead service planning and development by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users. Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team. Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service and professional standards. Communicate verbally and/or in writing results of assessments, treatment/intervention programmes and recommendations to the team and relevant others in accordance with service policy. Participate in teams as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members. Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as designated by Occupational Therapist Manager. Ensure that staff in the designated service area(s) arrange and carry out duties in a timely manner, within settings appropriate to service users needs, and in line with local policy/guidelines. Eligibility Criteria: Hold an Occupational Therapy qualification recognised by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. Have had at least five years satisfactory post qualification experience, some of which must be in rehabilitation, particularly the management of older adult patients or patients with neurological conditions. Have CPD relevant to the area. This can be in the form of relevant courses or post graduate education. Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. Desirable Criteria: Hold Membership of Clinical Interest Group(s). Post graduate education in rehabilitation or specific experience working with this client group. Skills Criteria: Sufficient clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice to undertake the duties of the post. Effective interpersonal / communication skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues. Leadership skills and ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to lead and be innovative in-service provision including planning, developing, and implementing changes in Occupational Therapy practice or service. Flexibility. Evidence of contributing to own CPD specific to rehabilitation of older adults. Effective organisational skills and the ability to manage oneself in a busy environment. Ability to integrate evidence into practice. A quality focus and commitment to quality within Occupational Therapy practice. IT skills commensurate with the post. Ability to supervise junior/student members of staff. Knowledge Criteria: Knowledge of the structure and operation of the Irish Health service, Mercy University Hospital, Reconfiguration plans and the HSE, and wider developments that may affect service delivery.
