Project Manager - Research Infrastructure Access (EUPO)
Contract: full time

Background to the Role
Research Infrastructures are facilities that provide access to expertise, platform technologies and state-of-the-art tools for the research communities to conduct research and foster innovation in their fields. Tyndall operates Ireland's major infrastructure on semiconductors and their applications. We have also coordinated a series of European-funded initiatives to offer access to Research Infrastructures in micro- and nano- electronics e.g., ASCENT (2015-2018), EnABLES (2018-2022), ASCENT+ (2020-2024), INFRACHIP (2024-2028) and are leading I-C3, Ireland's Chips Competence Centre.

This role will support the coordination and delivery of a broad portfolio of access research projects that will be delivered under the INFRACHIP programme. The successful candidate will work closely with the INFRACHIP team at Tyndall to manage internal operations, coordinate proposal submissions and researcher support, oversee short-course training delivery to INFRACHIP visitors, and liaise with partners to enable access to the overall INFRACHIP infrastructure. The role will also support the development and refinement of internal processes, tools, and communications that enable efficient operations across a growing number of projects and stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage and coordinate the proposal submission process and project management of activities that relate to Research Infrastructure access under the INFRACHIP programme.
- Act as the owner for the operational and financial management of the INFRACHIP access projects undertaken by Tyndall.
- Working closely with the Tyndall researchers, facilitate the management of Tyndall's access projects including but not limited to resource tracking across projects.
- Motivate the organisation and manage the execution of training courses delivered to INFRACHIP visitors in partnership with Tyndall research partners.
- Act as contact point for internal and external partners that are interested in offering and accessing the Tyndall research infrastructure.
- Manage and develop relationships with European and international stakeholders within the microelectronics sector relevant to Tyndall's research/projects.
- Develop and maintain internal documentation, communications, and reporting processes.
- Develop and improve internal operational tools and systems to support infrastructure access.
- Contribute to promoting group activities, including website content and infrastructure visibility.
- Ensure compliance with organisational Quality Management Systems, Health and Safety standards, and other regulations.
- Additional duties as may be reasonably required within the scope and level of the post.

Essential Criteria

- Degree in physical sciences, engineering or related discipline
- Typically, 6 years of work experience in R&D programme management and/or project management
- Evidence of working in electronics, material science or semiconductor-related environment and familiarity with research infrastructure operations
- Track record of reporting to project stakeholders and/or public scientific/technical bodies such as national and European funding agencies
- Track record of developing and improving operational/management systems and tools
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and take on operational leadership roles

Desirable Criteria

- Evidence of entrepreneurial experience and creative skills/creativity
- Professional qualification in project management
- Postgraduate qualification in engineering, materials sciences, chemistry, physics or related discipline
- Track record in financial management of projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience in the management of large-scale research projects, typically with project budgets valued over €1m
- Strong communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation skills
- Experience of drafting national and international research proposals

Appointment may be made on the Grade 6 Admin III Scale B range € 59,663- € 71,234 per annum. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.

The duration of the contract is a for a fixed term of approximately 24 months with the possibility to extend upon the availability of funding, satisfactory performance, mutual agreement and a detailed career development plan.
