A leading innovator in marine data and technology is seeking a Senior Data Systems & Analytics Specialist to play a key role in delivering high-quality data and insights across a range of ocean monitoring and mapping projects.
This is a strategic and hands-on role, focused on developing automation, managing data pipelines, and supporting end-to-end data delivery, from project bid to completion. You'll be responsible for maintaining the technical backbone of the organisation's data systems, working with technologies including Python, Power BI, AWS, Azure, and data governance frameworks.
The position will cover maternity leave for the Senior Manager, Data Systems and offers the opportunity to lead cross-functional initiatives that shape how data is captured, processed, and visualised across global marine operations.
This is a fixed term contract, and also open to self-employed/independent contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Data Systems & Automation
* Develop, maintain, and optimise data pipelines connecting Azure SQL, AWS S3, SharePoint, and internal systems.
* Implement automation using Power Automate, PowerShell, and Python to streamline workflows and ensure data integrity.
* Build and maintain advanced Power BI dashboards for operational insights, shift analysis, and forecasting.
* Improve data availability, reliability, and validation processes across multiple datasets.
Cloud & Infrastructure
* Manage integrations across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and ensure consistent data syncing and permissions management.
* Troubleshoot data pipeline and sync issues, maintaining uptime and data quality.
* Enforce governance best practices around naming conventions, metadata, and lifecycle management.
Cross-Team Coordination
* Work closely with teams in Survey, Commercial, Data Processing, and ML to maintain automation continuity and data readiness.
* Act as an escalation point for mission-critical data issues during survey operations.
* Support roadmap planning for ML deployment, QA analytics, and usage monitoring tools.
What You'll Bring
* 12–15 years' experience in a senior technical, data platform, or analytics engineering role.
* Proficiency in Python, SQL, PowerShell, and Power Query.
* Strong experience with Power BI (complex measures, real-time dashboards).
* Solid knowledge of AWS (S3, permissions, sync) and Azure (SQL, Data Factory/Logic Apps).
* Proven success building automated workflows and managing structured/unstructured data.
* Experience implementing data governance and QA processes.
* Ability to manage escalations and drive solutions independently.
* Familiarity with marine, sensor, or geospatial data is highly advantageous.
Desirable:
* Experience with machine learning pipelines or model integration.
* Background in survey, marine, energy, or offshore environments.
* Experience building SharePoint-integrated workflows.
